Traveling along the serpentine coast, suddenly, from a distance, the dome of the main temple, built in the 13th century and located in the very center of Positano, in Piazza Flavio Gioia – now the church of Santa Maria Assunta.
The dome of the temple is one of the business cards of the Amalfi coast, descended from all the postcards of this unique and hand–painted piece of Italy. Inside, the church is decorated with images from ancient mosaics, as well as the dome itself, which is covered with majolica. The magnificent Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary of the 13th century has been preserved in the temple, as well as the Famous Black Madonna, brought here by sailors in the 18th century.
Positano, descending with its small colorful houses from the mountain to the sea, seems like a real fabulous place. It has become a favorite among many bloggers and those who love colorful photos that delight the eye. Here, literally at every step, you can make a real photo masterpiece.
Even on the serpentine, approaching the town, you will see a typical car shop for this region with juicy fruits and vegetables. For a nimble salesman, this is a great idea for entrepreneurship, because he has become a real local celebrity. Now all famous bloggers are photographed near his bettega. Fashion brands are taking their pictures, and any tourist will be happy to capture himself against such a colorful beauty. By the way, the seller of fruits and vegetables himself is already well versed in posing, lighting and all that is necessary for a successful photo shoot!
Walking through Positano, you will literally plunge into the aromas of orange and lemon groves. Here, nature is fragrant and immerses in its multicolored beauty, drowning in flowers and greenery. Imagine how many centuries-old stories this once-port town, founded by the Ancient Greeks in the 8th century BC and then named Poseidonia, holds. Already during the Roman rule, it was one of their favorite vacation spots for the wealthiest Romans.
The unique architectural style of Positano, with its narrow streets and colorful houses that cascade down from the mountain to the sea and which we love so much, was formed after the fall of Ancient Rome. At a time when the town was being attacked by pirates. And in the 18th and 19th centuries, Positano became a favorite place among artists, writers and poets, which is not surprising at all! This place is perfect for inspiration and creativity!
