There is a single island on Lake Como – Comachina. It is very small – 600 m long, and its perimeter is only 2 km. But in the Middle Ages it was a strategically important and stable fortress city of Christopolis, which translates as the City of Christ. Here, residents of coastal settlements found shelter and shelter in difficult times. According to legend, there were 7 churches operating on its small territory, and 5,000 people lived there. Due to the control of several trade routes, the islanders gradually enriched themselves and contributed to the prosperity of the city. Now you can stroll among nature, taking with you a plaid and a karzina with traditional snacks and local wine to make an aperitif in privacy overlooking the soothing lake.
Embark on a boat trip across the lake and you will discover the magical nature of Como: forests that rustle with foliage among the green slopes, waterfalls descending like silver threads, ancient churches, villas hidden by vegetation, and charming villages that surround ancient historical settlements.
Another natural treasure is the Orrido Nesso waterfall. Sailing here, you can enjoy an incredibly beautiful sight. This place is very romantic, "refreshing" and calls for dreams. This waterfall is created by two streams, Tuff and Noze, which merge and fall into the waters of the lake.
Along Lake Como there are many authentic and colorful villages, which, like the majestic villas, deserve a separate post, these are: Bellagio, Varenna and Cernobbio, where, for example, Villa D'Este is located – a former noble estate. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, it was acquired by Caroline Brunswick, Princess of Wales, who, forgetting her title, fell in love with her chamberlain, Bartolomeo Pergami. Here their love story developed, which cost the princess a royal title. Another village, Griante, is famous for its wines, to which Stendhal devoted many pages in the novel "The Monastery of Parma". Between Tremezzo and Cadenabbia is another famous villa - Villa Carlotta, a huge palace full of precious works of art with a beautiful magnolia park.
